Australia’s ABC network has confirmed the cancellation of its comedy panel show Question Everything after four seasons, marking another high-profile programme to be taken off air in 2025.

Launched in 2021, Question Everything was designed as a light-hearted but informative take on misinformation, fake news and scams. The show featured a rotating panel of emerging comedians, with long-time ABC personality Wil Anderson and journalist-comedian Jan Fran as hosts.

Produced by CJZ, the company behind Anderson’s other popular show Gruen, the program quickly built a loyal following for its sharp humour and educational spin.

News of its cancellation was confirmed to Australian media platform Mumbrella this week. Executive producer Nick Murray expressed disappointment at the decision, highlighting the program’s role in nurturing new talent.

“The ABC has been wonderful in supporting locally developed and produced programs like Gruen and Question Everything,” Murray said. “Australian shows and ideas are an endangered species now, so we appreciate the support of the ABC for original Australian programs. We did an enormous amount of work training both on-air talent and new writers through our various initiatives, putting 43 new performers and 27 new writers through the training and intern schemes on Question Everything.”

Murray also praised Anderson and Fran, describing them as “terrific to work with” and noting that the team had a lot of fun creating the series.

The cancellation adds to what industry observers are calling a “TV bloodbath” in Australia this year. Earlier in 2025, Network Ten’s The Project aired its final episode in June, while ABC’s flagship debate show Q&A was also discontinued in May after nearly two decades on air.

Wil Anderson will continue working with ABC as host of Gruen, in addition to touring nationally with his stand-up comedy shows. Jan Fran, meanwhile, has launched a new media venture called Ette Media alongside journalist Antoinette Lattouf. The initiative is aimed at promoting media literacy and responsible journalism. Fran and Lattouf also co-host a podcast, We Used To Be Journos, which offers media analysis and behind-the-scenes insights from veteran journalists.

With the closure of Question Everything, the future of comedy-driven current affairs content on Australian television appears uncertain. However, both Anderson and Fran remain active in the industry, continuing to shape conversations around media and misinformation in new formats.
