Four members of a family lost their lives Friday afternoon when a covered van overturned and crushed a private car on Dhaka–Chattogram highway near the Paduar Bazar Bishwa Road area in Cumilla, Bangladesh.

The victims were identified as Mohammad Omar Ali, 80; his wife Nurjahan Begum, 65; their elder son Abul Hashem, 50; and younger son Abul Kashem, 45. The family was from the Mudaffarganj area in Cumilla’s Laksham upazila.

The crash occurred when the covered van overturned, crushing the family's car and subsequently hitting a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, according to police.

Two firefighting units from the Cumilla Sadar South Fire Station responded to the incident and carried out a rescue operation, said Station Officer Mir Mohammad Maruf.
