Lahore police have arrested a man for allegedly staging a fake robbery and falsely reporting that Rs312,000 had been snatched from him, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.

According to sources, the incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Hair police station, where the man called the police emergency helpline, claiming that he had been robbed of Rs312,000 on the road.

Police reached the scene and launched an investigation.

However, contradictions in the complainant’s statement raised suspicion, prompting investigators to question him further.

According to SP Cantt Atif Ameer, the complainant, identified as Tanveerul Hassan, was later found to be the alleged mastermind behind the fake robbery.

Police said the suspect had collected money through a committee, a common informal savings arrangement, and had the entire amount in his possession.

He allegedly planned the fake road robbery to misappropriate the committee funds.

During interrogation, the suspect could not maintain his story for long and allegedly confessed to staging the robbery, the SP said.

A case has been registered against Tanveerul Hassan for making a false robbery call, while further investigations are under way.
