Surge in the spread of poliovirus in Pakistan continued as another polio case of the current year 2025 reported from Larkana district of Sindh, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
According to Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme (PPEP), this is the third case of the year 2025.
The first case of 2025 was reported from Dera Ismail Khan, the second from Badin, Pakistan Polio Eradication Program said.
Last year 2024, 74 polio cases were reported, Pakistan Polio Eradication Program said.
Pakistan has been responding to an intense resurgence of WPV1 with 74 cases reported in 2024. Of these, 27 are from Balochistan, 22 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 22 from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
Medical experts said that polio is a paralyzing disease that has no cure.
Meanwhile, 7-day special polio campaign has been launched in 27 high-risk union councils of Karachi.
Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho inaugurated the campaign.
The campaign was inaugurated at Fateh Muhammad Gabol Dispensary, Gajro and District East.
