As Australian and England cricket teams are set to face each other at Lahore’s Qaddafi Stadium today, Inspector General of Police Punjab (IGP) Usman Anwar has directed the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit and the Elite Force officials as well as personnel to provide foolproof security to the teams as well as spectators by keeping an eye on anti-state elements, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
In a statement, the IGP has said that the Punjab Police are committed to holding matches in a secure environment. “In this connection our coordination with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the district administration, security agencies and other departments is complete,” he has said.
He has informed that over 12,000 police officials and personnel will be deployed in and around the stadium to provide security during the match. “Snipers will take their positions on the rooftops of high-rise buildings along the route through which the teams have to pass on their way to the stadium,” the IGP has said, adding, “Snipers will also be deployed on the rooftop of the stadium to monitor the movements of people.”
Similarly, he has gone on to say, there will be a monitoring of the route the teams will take to reach the stadium through CCTV cameras.
Anwar has directed that additional traffic wardens be deployed to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and parking of vehicles.
He has informed that the areas around the route and the stadium are being combed.
The IGP has also directed the police personnel deputed at the entry and exit points of the stadium to treat the spectators politely and with respect.
