A prominent Pakistani legal expert represented the country at a major international forensic sciences gathering in the United States, marking what observers describe as a notable milestone for Pakistan’s legal community.
Ashfaq Ahmed Kharal, Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Chief Executive Officer of Justice Inn, a consortium of senior lawyers, participated as a moderator at the annual conference of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
The conference was held from February 10 to 14 at the Convention Centre in New Orleans and brought together judges, prosecutors, attorneys and forensic experts from around the world to deliberate on emerging developments in forensic and legal sciences.
Kharal has been serving as an Associate Member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences since 2014. He is also a member of the Forensic Commission of the Government of Pakistan and has previously served as Additional Advocate General.
His selection as a moderator at the prestigious forum is being viewed as significant recognition of Pakistan’s growing engagement in the fields of forensic science and legal reform.
During his address, Kharal underscored the effective use of modern forensic techniques and advanced equipment in judicial proceedings, particularly in criminal cases. He emphasized that scientific evidence, when properly collected, preserved and presented, is both permissible and admissible under the relevant provisions of the Evidence Act.
Legal experts attending the conference noted that the integration of forensic science into judicial systems worldwide continues to strengthen transparency, reliability and fairness in criminal investigations.
He also appreciated the efforts of Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Justice Aalia Neelum for recognizing the importance of incorporating modern scientific techniques in criminal proceedings and supporting their implementation within the judicial system.
The conference featured detailed discussions on emerging trends in forensic science, judicial reforms, and the strengthening of scientific standards in legal systems worldwide. Kharal’s participation reflects Pakistan’s active engagement with the international legal and forensic community.
