The Punjab Counter Narcotics Force (CNF) intercepted a major drug smuggling attempt on the M-1 Motorway, seizing 248 kilograms of illicit narcotics, including 233 kilograms of hashish and 15 kilograms of opium, and arresting one suspect near the Burhan Interchange, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
The operation, conducted on January 21, 2026, was carried out on the basis of credible intelligence and marks one of the most significant motorway seizures in recent months, delivering a decisive blow to organized drug networks operating across the province.
According to CNF officials, personnel stopped and searched a suspicious vehicle during the operation, leading to the recovery of the massive consignment concealed within. The individual found in possession of the contraband was taken into custody at the scene, while the seized narcotics were confiscated and secured as evidence.
Legal action is being initiated under the Punjab Control of Narcotic Substances Act (2025) and authorities have confirmed that further investigations are underway to trace the broader smuggling network and identify additional individuals involved in the trafficking operation.
Officials described the successful interception as a clear demonstration of the Punjab Counter Narcotics Force’s professional competence, robust intelligence framework, and operational readiness. The CNF reiterated that the Government of Punjab remains firmly committed to a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.
