The deadline for residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) remote Tirah Valley to evacuate the area will expire tomorrow (Friday0, but heavy snowfall has made movement nearly impossible, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.
According to the report, Pakistan security forces had earlier warned tribesmen to immediately vacate the area, citing security concerns.
However, locals say the evacuation order cannot be implemented, as severe weather conditions have stranded people inside the Tera Valley.
On Thursday, light rainfall in parts of Khyber district, including Bara, Jamrud and surrounding areas, intensified the cold weather, while heavy snowfall began in the Tirah Valley.
The snowfall has created serious difficulties for residents and displaced families who are attempting to migrate to safer locations.
Local residents said that snowfall across the Khyber district has badly disrupted evacuation efforts.
They confirmed that security forces had issued warnings to residents to leave the area by Friday but said the ongoing snowstorm has made evacuation impossible.
People trapped in the Tirah valley reported that roads have been blocked and movement has come to a halt, leaving families stranded in extreme cold with limited resources.
