Heavy snowfall coupled with intermittent rain and blizzards walloped many districts of Balochistan on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, throwing the daily life into disorder, making roads impassable and hampering movement on highways, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Chaman, Ziarat, Qilla Abdullah, Kan Mehtarzai, Pishin, Kakri Khanozai, Kozak Top and other areas continued to receive the snowfall.
Relevant departments deployed their assets in the field in an attempt to clear Quetta-Karachi expressway and other highways leading to Chaman, Dera Ismail Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan.
The Met Office has warned public to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel.
Director General PDMA Balochistan Jahanzeb Khan Ghorezai and GM NHA Agha Anayat were supervising the operation to clear the roads and highways.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan had earlier issued an alert predicting rain, hail, wind, and snowfall in mountainous areas in different parts of the province due to a strong westerly wind.
According to the PDMA, this weather system may intensify during January 21 and 22, 2026, affecting normal life.
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy snowfall buffeted Quetta, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, and Chaman, due to which there were road closures, slippage, and disruption in traffic flow.
In addition, rain and thunderstorms with strong cold winds pummeled Quetta, Ziarat, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Noshki, Chagai, Daki, Loralai, Sibi, Khuzdar, Kalat, Mastung, Washik, Kech, Awaran, Gwadar, Hub ,and Lasbela.
The PDMA directed citizens, tourists, and travellers to avoid unnecessary travel. The public has been urged to stay in safe places during heavy rain and snowfall.
The PDMA has also issued instructions to all relevant institutions to remain alert and take preventive measures to deal with any emergency situation.
According to Met Office, the snowfall is expected to continue till Thursday evening and then the westerly strong wave is likely to move to other provinces.
