A resolution has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly calling for a complete ban on the use of mobile phones by students in both public and private schools across the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Tuesday.
The resolution, tabled by PML-N MPA Rahila Khadim Hussain, highlights growing concerns over the negative impact of mobile devices and social media on children's mental and moral development.
In her resolution submitted to the Punjab Assembly Secretariat, Hussain emphasised that children are the future of the nation, and it is the government's fundamental responsibility to ensure their proper mental and social upbringing.
“In the current digital era, mobile phones and social media are severely damaging children's minds and values,” the resolution states. It further urges the government to take the issue seriously and develop a comprehensive action plan to address what it calls a “major social problem.”
As an immediate measure, the resolution proposes a province-wide ban on mobile phone usage by students during school hours. It also calls for legislation to regulate and restrict children’s access to social media platforms.
