LHC declares arrest on supplementary statement after FIR as illegal

The Lahore High Court has declared the arrest on the basis of the supplementary statement given after the FIR illegal, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday. 
Justice Muhammad Tariq Nadeem issued the decision in the bail application case of accused Umar Farooq. 
An arrest on the basis of the supplementary statement is against the fundamental rights, the court declared.
According to the written verdict, arrest on mere suspicion, verbal information or a delayed supplementary statement is illegal.
Confession before police has no legal value.
The court ordered the IG Police to send a copy of the verdict to all RPOs, CPOs and DPOs of Punjab.
The court ordered IG Punjab to conduct a strict legal review of arrests based on supplementary statements.
Court-ordered submission of the implementation report on the verdict to the Lahore High Court within two weeks.
The court granted post-arrest bail to the accused, Umar Farooq, alias Ehtesham, in the murder case.
Additional IG Investigation: Shahzad Sultan and other officers appeared in the case.
There is no provision for a supplementary statement in the law, Additional IG Investigation confessed in court.
Investigation officers resort to supplementary statements for malicious purposes, the additional IG admitted.
Additional IG assured the court that now no accused will be arrested on the basis of a supplementary statement alone.
