Pakistan has celebrated another major achievement in mountaineering after renowned climber Abidullah Baig from Hunza successfully summited Gasherbrum II, one of the world's highest peaks, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
According to the TV channel report, standing at 8,035 metres, Gasherbrum II is the world's 13th-highest mountain.
Baig completed the demanding ascent without the use of supplemental oxygen and without Sherpa assistance, an accomplishment widely regarded as one of the toughest challenges in high-altitude mountaineering.
The latest success further strengthens Baig's reputation as one of Pakistan's leading climbers.
He has previously summited Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I and Broad Peak, while also climbing Tirich Mir and several other major peaks without supplemental oxygen.
Fellow climbers and supporters have praised the achievement, describing it as a proud moment for Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan's mountaineering community and a testament to the country's growing presence in international high-altitude climbing.
