PPP asks AJK Election Commissioner to restore internet before polls

President of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Azad Kashmir chapter president Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin has written an important letter to the Chief Election Commissioner Azad Kashmir, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

In the letter, Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin demanded for immediate restoration of internet service in Azad Kashmir.

He said election campaign is being severely affected by internet shutdown. Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin said to ensure provision of timely and accurate information to voters.

Internet shutdown can hinder transparent election process, Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin added. He said internet shutdown is increasing the risk of spreading fake news and rumors.

He said protection of voters' right to information is the responsibility of the Election Commission. Restoration of internet is essential for uninterrupted continuation of election campaign, Chaudhry Yasin said.

Internet service should be restored by contacting the concerned institutions immediately, text of letter said.

Chaudhry Yasin said availability of internet is essential for free, fair and transparent elections.
