PTI leader Mehmoodur Rasheed on Wednesday filed a bail appeal in the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) and prayed to the court to declare the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) verdict dated April 28 null and void, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Making the Punjab government and SHO Shadman police station SHO respondents, Mehmood argued in the appeal that the LHC did not take into account the facts while giving the decision as there was no credible evidence of his involvement in the May 9 incidents of violence.
He further said that none of the witnesses had said that he incited people to violence.
The PTI leader lamented that despite the fact that the trial court had rejected the claim that a weapon was recovered from his possession, still he was handed prison term for ‘participating in a conspiracy’. “This was regardless of the fact that conflicting statements were given by witnesses regarding the element of a conspiracy,” he added.
He pointed out that another PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi was acquitted in the case; however, he was not given a clean chit.
Mehmood said that convicting one accused in a case and setting the other free in the same case was against the law.
