Russia, China and Pakistan have proposed a draft UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East, ahead of an emergency UNSC session, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel.
It is not immediately clear when it can be put to a vote. The three countries circulated the draft text, said diplomats, and asked members to share their comments by Monday evening. A resolution needs at least nine votes in favour and no vetoes by the United States, France, Britain, Russia or China to pass.
Meanwhile, Iran has called on the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting following the United States' attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran's UN Envoy Saeed Iravani conveyed this demand in a letter to the UN Security Council describing the US actions as unprovoked airstrikes.
He said targeted facilities are under constant monitoring by the International Atomic Energy Agency and operate in full compliance with the Safeguards Agreement and Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons protocols.
