Eight Iranian fishermen repatriated through Pakistan

Eight Iranian fishermen rescued at sea after their boat ran aground have been repatriated through Pakistan and returned to Iran, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Monday.

In a message posted on X, Dar said the fishermen departed from Karachi for Iran on Monday morning after arrangements were made for their safe transit.

According to the foreign minister, the fishermen were rescued by the British vessel MMA Valour after their boat ran aground.

He said Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant authorities worked closely with Iranian and British officials to facilitate their early return.

Dar said Pakistan coordinated with the authorities concerned to ensure the safe transit of the fishermen and their return to their homeland.

He also thanked Iran for entrusting Pakistan with the handling of the matter and appreciated the cooperation of all stakeholders involved in facilitating the fishermen's repatriation.

The foreign minister specifically acknowledged the trust reposed by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Pakistan's efforts to assist the Iranian nationals.
