Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Imran Nadeem was elected unopposed as speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly on Monday and assumed charge after taking the oath in the assembly session.
Outgoing Speaker Nazir Advocate administered the oath to Imran Nadeem, who later took over as speaker of the house.
The assembly also elected PML-N member Malik Kifayat-ur-Rehman as deputy speaker unopposed. Speaker Imran Nadeem administered the oath to the newly elected deputy speaker following his election.
After the completion of the elections for speaker and deputy speaker, the assembly session continued with the next stage of the government formation process.
The election for the leader of the house is scheduled to be held at 7:40 p.m. The speaker adjourned the session until that time.
The Pakistan Peoples Party has nominated Amjad Advocate for the post of Leader of the House.
