Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian will arrive in Pakistan on Tuesday for talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a day after Iranian and US officials held mediated negotiations in Switzerland aimed at ending the Middle East conflict.
The visit was officially confirmed by the Director General of the Presidential Press Office in Tehran.
During the visit, Pezeshkian is expected to hold key meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz, with discussions focusing on bilateral relations, regional developments, economic cooperation and issues of mutual interest.
According to officials, the Iranian president will also thank the Pakistani leadership for its role in facilitating mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.
The two sides are expected to review progress on previously signed economic cooperation agreements and discuss ways to enhance high-level contacts between the neighbouring countries.
The visit comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington following talks held in Switzerland under a 60-day framework aimed at reaching a final agreement.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Sunday, Pezeshkian said Iran had "no fear of defending its legitimate rights" but stressed that dialogue and diplomacy should take precedence when national interests could be secured through negotiations.
"When Iran can secure its rights through dialogue and diplomacy, it should not remain at war," he said.
The Iranian president said the negotiation process had been presented to the country's leadership and discussed by members of the Supreme National Security Council.
Pezeshkian also described national unity as Iran's greatest achievement following what he termed the US-Israeli war against his country, saying coordination among political, executive, military, security and judicial institutions was unprecedented and should be preserved.
The regional situation, bilateral cooperation and the implementation of existing agreements are expected to feature prominently in the talks between the Pakistani and Iranian leadership during the visit.
