India and the United Arab Emirates are holding discussions over a potential deal for the purchase of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
According to Reuters news agency, the negotiations are still at an early stage but are progressing rapidly.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the UAE has also expressed interest in India's Akashteer air defence system as part of its efforts to strengthen military capabilities.
Neither Indian authorities nor the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to requests for comment on the reported talks.
The BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, is regarded as one of the world's fastest supersonic cruise missiles.
It can be launched from land, sea and air platforms and has become a key component of India's defence exports strategy.
Akashteer, meanwhile, is a fully automated air defence command and control system developed by India's state-owned Bharat Electronics Limited in collaboration with the Indian Army.
The system is designed to integrate and coordinate air defence operations in real time.
Reuters reported that the UAE has accelerated plans to enhance its defence capabilities following Iranian attacks during recent conflicts in the Middle East.
The Gulf nation is also seeking to bolster the security of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy exports.
Any export of BrahMos missiles to the UAE would require Russian approval because the weapon is a joint India-Russia venture.
However, sources said Russia's close relations with the UAE are unlikely to pose a significant obstacle to the deal.
The report noted that the UAE already possesses US-made MGM-168 ATACMS ballistic missiles with a range of up to 300 kilometres.
Its air defence network also includes advanced THAAD and Patriot missile defence systems.
Although several Indian defence export deals have faced delays or failed to materialise in the past, analysts believe there is growing potential for India to expand arms sales to the UAE and other Gulf countries as regional security concerns continue to rise.
