The Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) has announced a reduction of Rs6 per litre in the price of petrol and Rs6.80 in the price of high-speed diesel for the coming week.

According to an official press release issued by the ministry, the revised ex-depot prices will come into effect from May 23, 2026.

Under the new rates, the price of petrol (motor spirit) has been reduced from Rs Rs409.78 to 403.78 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been lowered from Rs409.58 to 402.78per litre.

The notification states that both petroleum products have been made cheaper by Rs5 per litre compared to the previous prices that were effective from May 16, 2026.

The reduction in fuel prices is expected to provide some relief to consumers, particularly transporters and commuters, amid ongoing economic pressures.
