Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that the recent case involving a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker and actress Momina Iqbal is a personal matter that will be handled strictly on merit and in accordance with the law.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Punjab chief minister said no individual, regardless of status, political affiliation or position, is above the law and warned that anyone found involved in harassing, threatening or exploiting a woman would not be forgiven.
She said state institutions would perform their duties independently, impartially and in line with the Constitution and the law.
Maryam Nawaz further warned that any attempt to exert political pressure, misuse influence or blackmail a woman by threatening to release her personal information would face strict and indiscriminate action.
The statement came after actress Momina Iqbal accused PML-N MPA Saqib Chadhar of harassment and alleged that he leaked her private photos.
According to details of her statement, the actress claimed Saqib Chadhar possessed her private pictures and was allegedly sharing them with others.
She also appealed to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency to stop the circulation of photos and videos, saying the matter was affecting her personal life and marriage prospects.
Following her complaint, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency issued a notice to Saqib Chadhar, officials said.
Officials added that the actual facts of the case would become clear after a forensic analysis of the lawmaker’s mobile phone.
Earlier, Momina Iqbal shared a strongly worded statement on Instagram, saying she would continue fighting against what she described as baseless allegations and a campaign of character assassination.
The actress has formally approached the NCCIA in Lahore regarding alleged online harassment, cyberbullying and threats. The matter gained widespread attention on social media after reports emerged that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had directed authorities to ensure a transparent investigation free from political influence.
