Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday warned Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders that they would be responsible for the consequences of the coronavirus situation worsened in the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a string of tweets, the prime minister said that Pakistan will be compelled to go into a complete lockdown if the coronavirus cases continued to surge across the country.
Imran held the PDM responsible for “deliberately endangering lives and livelihoods” by holding public rallies across the country with coronavirus cases soaring in Pakistan.
The prime minister said: “Pakistan’s second COVID 19 spike data is of concern: Increase in Covid patients on ventilators in last 15 days: Peshawar 200%, Multan 200%, Karachi 148%, Lahore 114%, Islamabad 65%. Multan & Isb Covid ventilators capacity utilisation 70%. Across the world there is a second spike.”

Imran Khan further wrote: “& complete lockdowns in most countries. In Pak, the PDM by continuing with jalsas is deliberately endangering lives & livelihoods bec if cases continue to rise at the rate we are seeing, we will be compelled to go into complete lockdown & PDM will be responsible for consequences.

He said: “The opposition is callously destroying people’s lives & livelihoods in their desperation to get an NRO. Let me make it clear: they can hold a million jalsas but will not get any NRO.”

The prime minister said: “I do not want to take measures like a lockdown that will start hurting our economy which at the moment is showing signs of a robust recovery. Unfortunately, the Opposition’s only goal is NRO at whatever cost to the lives of people & the country’s economy.”

Toeing their leader’s line, several federal ministers also criticized opposition’s the PDM for insisting on holding rally in Peshawar despite government’s ban.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said that opposition wants to slaughter the entire cow for its 2kg meat.

In a tweet, the federal minister used the example of a cow to explain the situation. "The Opposition wants to sacrifice the entire cow for its 2kg meat," he said, "Fools, if the disease continues to spread and people’s lives are on stake, then for what (purpose) are you doing politics for?"
He said that politics and power were connected with people’s lives and well-being. "Change your strategy; if you really want to hold jalsas then hold virtual ones," he added.
Federal Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar said that ‘spread coronavirus movement’ of opposition is proof of their selfishness.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Political Communication Shahbaz Gill said that PDM parties are endangering lives of people for their personal interests and warned that second wave of coronavirus can be more deadly.
