The federal government has lifted the ban on the import and export of gold, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Ministry of Commerce on Saturday issued the order after the approval of the federal cabinet.

The government has also made some amendments related to the import and export of precious metals and jewellery.

The framework for the import and export of these items will remain in place.

The Ministry of Commerce had placed a ban on the import and export of gold on May 6, 2025 when it received complaints about the smuggling of the metal.

The ministry had suspended the SRO governing the trade of gold for 60 days.

However, sources told the 24News TV channel that no complaint of smuggling was received in recent months.

Gold is still used as a traditional store of value and is an important part of Pakistan’s cultural, financial, and manufacturing sectors. Pakistan predominantly imports gold from the UAE, Switzerland and other gold-trading hubs.
