Pakistan women’s cricket team head coach Mohammad Wasim expressed optimism about his side’s progress and preparations for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.
Addressing a press conference after the recent ODI match, Wasim praised the performance of Pakistan’s spin attack, which he said played a decisive role in today’s game.
“Our spinners performed very well today, and that gives us confidence. In Sri Lanka, we expect pitches to be similar, which will suit our bowling strength,” he remarked.
Highlighting the suitability of the 50-over format for Pakistan, Wasim explained that the longer format allows his side more opportunities to settle into rhythm and execute strategies effectively.
“The one-day format suits our team. It gives our batters and bowlers the time they need to play to their strengths,” he said.
At the same time, the coach admitted that there are still shortcomings in the squad that need to be addressed.
"We know there are areas where improvement is required. We are working hard to overcome these weaknesses, and I am hopeful the team will perform even better in the World Cup,” Wasim added.
The coach reserved special praise for in-form opening batter Sidra Ameen, who has been delivering consistent performances. “Sidra Ameen’s form has been excellent.
She is providing the kind of starts we need, and her confidence is growing with every innings,” he said.
Responding to questions about underperforming players, Wasim cautioned against rushing to judgment.
“If a player does not score runs in two or three matches, we cannot make a hasty judgment.
Players must be given time and backing to regain their form. This is part of building a strong and confident unit,” he explained.
