A Chinese airline has announced plans to operate what will become the world’s longest-duration commercial flight, spanning a total of 29 hours.

Bookings for the record-breaking journey, which will connect Buenos Aires in Argentina to Shanghai, have already opened.

Unlike other ultra-long-haul services, the flight will not be entirely non-stop; it will include a scheduled two-hour stopover in Auckland, New Zealand, before continuing toward its final destination.

Previously, the world’s longest direct flight was operated between Singapore and New York, with a duration of about 19 hours.

The new Buenos Aires–Shanghai connection, although it includes a brief layover, will still set a new benchmark for total travel time offered on a single airline ticket.

Aviation analysts noted that the route highlights both the growing demand for intercontinental connectivity and the expanding role of Chinese airlines in long-haul aviation.
