The Supreme Court (SC) Registrar’s Office has raised objections to five constitutional petitions filed by judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), which challenged the powers of Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.
According to sources, the five petitions submitted by IHC judges were returned after objections were noted by the SC Registrar’s Office.
The registrar's office observed that the petitions did not specify any question of public interest, nor did they indicate which fundamental rights were infringed upon to invoke the jurisdiction of Article 184(3) of the Constitution.
Further objections stated that the requirements of filing a petition under Article 184(3) had not been met, and the judges had failed to provide a solid reason for submitting constitutional petitions.
The Registrar’s Office also remarked that the petitions appeared to have been filed under Article 184(3)’s extraordinary jurisdiction on grounds of personal grievances.
It also cited the Zulfiqar Mehdi versus PIA case as precedent, where filing such petitions based on personal grievances was not allowed.
It is worth recalling that five judges of the Islamabad High Court had recently filed constitutional petitions challenging the powers of Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar.
