The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has postponed the Under-17 Championship, which was scheduled to begin in Islamabad on September 23, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.
The PFF postponed the championship because of the situation in the twin cities, with the safety of players and officials as the top priority.
Islamabad and Rawalpindi have witnessed heightened security measures and disruptions amid ongoing protests and political activity. Several roads and key routes have been affected, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures.
Eleven provincial and regional teams from across the country were set to participate in the championship, which was scheduled to continue until October 4.
However, the PFF said it will announce new dates for the championship after reviewing the situation. The postponement comes as authorities continue to assess the situation and prioritise public safety in the twin cities.
The Under-17 Championship is part of the PFF’s key initiatives to develop young football talent in the country.
