Armed men attacked the Customs Station in Mand area of Balochistan's Tump District, setting fire to the office and injuring a Pakistan Customs soldier on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to Pakistan Customs Officials, the attackers entered the Customs station and opened fire from different directions. The nearby Frontier Corps 165 Wing responded immediately, resulting in an exchange of fire with the assailants.
Customs soldier Muhammad Siraj sustained two bullet wounds to his right arm during the attack. He was initially shifted to DHQ Hospital Turbat for medical treatment and was later referred to Karachi for further care.
Pakistan Customs said its personnel had received threats following enforcement operations in Mand. The threats came after Customs officials intercepted LPG bowzers heading towards Turbat and stopped them until the payment of applicable duties and taxes.
The exact motive behind the attack is currently under investigation. The attackers are suspected of having links to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), although any affiliation has not been independently verified.
Pakistan Customs strongly condemned the attack on its personnel and office, reaffirming its commitment to protecting Pakistan's economic borders and continuing action against cross-border smuggling.
The department said it remains in close coordination with the Frontier Corps and local administration to ensure the security of its personnel and facilities.
Pakistan Customs maintained that such incidents would not prevent its operations against smuggling or its efforts to safeguard the national economy.
