Punjab Police has now been ordered to register all heinous crimes like murder, abduction and sexual abuse cases within eight hours of receiving the application.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IG Punjab) Dr Usman Anwar Sunday issued a special message for the convenience and awareness of the citizens in the registration case in any police station.
The IG Punjab said in his message that serious crimes such as murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping for ransom, and rape cases will be registered within eight hours after receiving the application.
IGP Punjab Usman said that timely registration of FIR is a legal and constitutional right of every citizen of Pakistan.
He said an advisory for prompt registration of FIRs and prompt justice to the victims through quality investigation has been issued to the police.
The IG Punjab said according to the nature of each crime, the timelines of registration cases have been fixed and sent to all the police stations of the province.
He said the deadline for filing a case in cases of theft, robbery, trespassing, snatching and motorcycle and vehicle theft is 24 hours after receiving the application.
It is the duty of the police to register cases of other crimes without delay and without any recommendation after ascertaining the facts, he said adding that if any citizen faces delay or problem in lodging FIR, he can call 1787 and register his complaint.
