The Bomb Disposal Unit has compiled a report on an explosion in a firecracker’s warehouse at Karachi’s MA Jinnah Road on Thursday, in which five people had lost their lives till last reports came in, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
According to the report, 500 kilogrammes of firecrackers were burnt in the incident, while the sound of the blast was heard as far as five to seven kilometers.
The blast caused destruction within 100 meters, says the report, adding firecrackers are still stored in three godowns inside the building.
Besides that, it informs, firecrackers are also stored in two containers, situated on a nearby ground.
In all, the report goes on to say, 5,000 kilogrammes of firecrackers are still stored in the godown.
Hanif, the suspect, brought material for producing firecrackers not only from within the country, but also from outside the country.
He also produced fireworks at the rear side of the warehouse.
The report recommends disposing of the remaining material at a safe place as early as possible.
On Thursday, a powerful blast ripped through a firecracker’s warehouse on MA Jinnah Road, leading to a massive blaze and intermittent explosions in the area.
The sheer intensity of the blast also damaged nearby vehicles and shattered windows of surrounding buildings, filling the area with heavy smoke drifting towards the Lines Area.
The ground-plus-two building housed medical equipment shops in addition to the firecracker’s warehouse.
Authorities said inflammable items, including oxygen cylinders, were being urgently removed to avert a larger catastrophe.
