Veteran Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari has criticised the Indian film "Batwara 1947", saying she found its portrayal of the sub-continent partition era and Muslim characters unconvincing and almost comical.
Reacting to the film, Bushra Ansari said she could not finish watching it, particularly taking issue with what she described as the film’s “butchered” Punjabi language and accents.
The veteran actress also criticised the way Muslims and the social atmosphere of the Partition era were depicted in the movie, suggesting that the stereotypical portrayal made some scenes appear unintentionally comic rather than authentic.
Bushra Ansari’s comments have drawn attention on social media, with viewers discussing the film’s depiction of Punjabi culture, language and the experiences of Muslims during the Partition period.
