KP govt declares 'relief emergency' in violence-hit Kurram District

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet on Monday approved declaration of relief emergency in the violence-hit Kurram District of the province.

During the emergency, medicines are being supplied to the area by helicopter and those in need of treatment are being brought to Peshawar.

According to Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, special assistant to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, the cabinet gave a go-ahead to the plan to declare Kurram a calamity-hit district. 

In addition to this, the cabinet gave approval for the enforcement of measures against money laundering and financial terrorism. The cabinet also endorsed the creation of a National Commission for Minority Rights to safeguard the rights of minorities.

Other key decisions included the approval of kidney and liver transplant centres in the province, along with the establishment of youth centres in Karak.

Furthermore, the cabinet agreed to provide grants for provincial universities and to appoint members to the Academic Search Committee.

Additionally, the establishment of a Girls Cadet College in Dera Ismail Khan was also approved.
