Known for his outspoken views and unapologetic stance on gender roles, playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar has reinforced his opinions on ‘morality’ and gender dynamics.
During a podcast with Fiza Ali, the writer shared his thoughts on ‘good’ and ‘bad’ women.
Casually puffing at a cigarette, he asserted that a ‘good woman’ respects the honour she is given, while those who do not are ‘open to understanding’.
Addressing misconceptions about his views on women, Qamar remained defiant, claiming that his fight was against the ‘dishonourable’ rather than women as a whole.
"I don’t have a clash with women. I am at war with bad gals. A beautiful woman is loyal and respectful.”
He said that bad men are those who depend on a woman's earnings, emphasising that a man’s dignity should prevent him from doing so.
He made a cryptic remark about true love, stating that a man ‘dies’ after falling in love though it happens rarely.
Khalil has often invited criticism over his rigid perspective on gender roles.
Once he used derogatory language against a woman panelist while discussing the Aurat March.
According to him, feminism is a ‘Western import that destroys family values’.
Despite the criticism, Khali continues to be a dominant voice in Pakistani entertainment.
