Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi on Monday ordered the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to prepare feasibility report of the electric tram service within three months so that the project could be launched in Islamabad at the earliest, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The interior minister directed the CDA to prepare the report before June so that it could be presented for inclusion in the national budget.
On the instructions of the minister, the CDA has started approaching consultants in order to hire their services.
The route proposed for the tram starts from Islamabad airport and ends at Lake View Park, while in the second phase, the tram will cover the areas, from Rawat to Lake View Park.
There is also a proposal to introduce latest, cashless and digital ticketing system in trams.
The tram service will later be linked to Murree Glass Train.
The CDA has also included in the plan to build charging stations for trams.
