A high-level meeting was held on Monday to review the current law and order situation in Karachi, chaired by Inspector General of Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho.
The meeting was attended by Additional IGs, DIGs, SSPs and AIGs, during which participants reviewed intelligence inputs received in the wake of the prevailing cross-border situation and deliberated on a comprehensive strategy to deal with potential threats.
A detailed review of security arrangements for sensitive government and private installations was also conducted. The IG Sindh directed officials to prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs) for implementation down to the police station level.
Officials were instructed to ensure the security of internal and external routes in case of any terrorist threat, while the Quick Response Force in every district has been ordered to remain on high alert. The meeting also directed that checking on internal and external routes be made more effective.
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Special Branch were tasked with ensuring the timely provision of intelligence to avert any untoward incidents. IG Sindh further instructed officers to personally inspect sensitive locations and monitor security measures in the field.
Orders were also issued to conduct general hold-ups and snap checking twice daily, while police action against professional beggars is to be intensified across the city.
