Derbyshire have strengthened their spin resources ahead of the 2026 Vitality Blast by signing Pakistan left-arm spinner Sufiyan Moqim for the first half of the tournament, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.
According to the club announcement, the signing came just a week after Derbyshire secured the services of England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir.
Moqim will represent the Derbyshire Falcons in the opening six matches of the T20 Blast, which is scheduled to begin on May 22.
He will be available for fixtures against Durham, Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Essex, and Nottinghamshire (twice), providing Derbyshire with a specialist spin option during the crucial early phase of the competition.
For the latter part of the competition, including the second phase and knockout matches, Afghanistan’s rising star Mohammad Ghazanfar will rejoin the squad.
Ghazanfar enjoyed a highly successful campaign with Derbyshire in the 2025 Vitality Blast, finishing as the Falcons’ most successful bowler of the season.
Derbyshire Falcons welcomed both spinners, expressing confidence that the combination of Muqeem’s left-arm wrist spin and Ghazanfar’s proven impact will provide balance and depth to their bowling unit across different stages of the tournament.
