An Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi Wednesday granted a five-day physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Atif Riaz, who was arrested in connection with the November 26 protest-related arson cases, reported 24NewsHD TV channel .

Atif Riaz was presented before ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah by officials of the Naseerabad police station. Prosecutor Syed Zaheer Shah informed the court that the accused had issued a call for the November 26 protest, during which workers were allegedly supplied with prohibited items intended for arson attacks.

“The accused had been in hiding for a long time,” the prosecutor told the court, adding that several accomplices were yet to be apprehended. Shah requested a 30-day physical remand, citing the need for thorough investigation and extradition of other suspects.

However, Judge Amjad Ali Shah approved a five-day physical remand and adjourned the hearing till July 28.

Atif Riaz was taken into custody late last night from outside Adiala Jail. Police claim he has been nominated in multiple cases related to arson and violence during the November protest demonstrations led by PTI.
