The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released a grim report detailing the human and infrastructural toll of this year’s monsoon season.
From June 26 to July 23, torrential rains have claimed 252 lives and injured 611 people across Pakistan.
According to the latest NDMA data, 10 people lost their lives and 13 were injured in the past 24 hours alone. Among the total fatalities, 121 were children, 85 were men, and 46 were women, highlighting the widespread and indiscriminate nature of the disaster.
Punjab has emerged as the worst-hit province, recording 139 deaths and 477 injuries. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa followed with 60 deaths and 74 injuries, while Sindh reported 24 deaths and 40 injuries. Balochistan registered 16 fatalities with 4 injuries, Azad Kashmir saw 2 deaths, and Islamabad recorded 6 injuries.
Beyond the human loss, the monsoon havoc has caused significant damage to property and infrastructure. So far, 1,005 houses have been damaged and 328 livestock have perished. Additionally, 12 bridges have been destroyed or severely affected by flooding.
The NDMA continues to coordinate relief and rescue efforts across the country, urging citizens to remain vigilant and follow official advisories as heavy rains persist in several regions.
