Interior Minister Mohin Naqvi held a detailed meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart in Dhaka in which both dignitaries vowed to work together to curb drug trafficking and terrorism in the region, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
On arrival at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday, Bangladesh's Security Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury welcomed Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the president of Asian Cricket Council (ACC), and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The two sides discussed various issues of mutual interest, including counter-narcotics cooperation, anti-terrorism efforts, mutual assistance between police academies, visa-on-arrival facilities for diplomatic and official passport-holders.
Welcoming the Pakistani minister, the security adviser noted that Bangladesh and Pakistan share common historical and cultural roots and that the friendship between the two countries continues to grow stronger.
Mohsin Naqvi expressed Pakistan's interest in deepening bilateral cooperation across various sectors. He emphasized Pakistan's commitment to fighting terrorism as a top priority and stated that failure to combat terrorism effectively could pose a global threat, including to Pakistan itself.
On drug trafficking, Naqvi mentioned that narcotics remain Pakistan's second major challenge, largely due to trafficking from neighbouring Afghanistan.
The Bangladeshi adviser stated that drugs smuggled from Myanmar pose a serious issue for Bangladesh. Both agreed that sharing experiences and strategies would strengthen their respective efforts in curbing the drug menace.
Regarding police training, Minister Naqvi suggested signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries' police academies. The Security adviser agreed and highlighted the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah as one of the oldest police training institutions in the Indian subcontinent.
Both the dignitaries agreed to form a joint committee for the development and expansion of relations in different fields, the committee will be headed by Secretary Interior Khurram Agha.
The meeting was attended by Md Khoda Bakhsh Chowdhury, special assistant to the Principal Adviser of the Ministry of Home Affairs; Senior Secretary Nasimul Ghani of the Ministry of Home Affairs; and Muhammad Wasif, charge d'affaires of the Pakistan Embassy in Dhaka.
