Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has updated senior officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Pakistan’s improved fiscal position, balance in external accounts, achievement of revenue targets, strong foreign exchange reserves and record remittances, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
The minister said this during a series of meetings with the senior IMF management, including Dan Katz and Gita Gopinath First Deputy Managing Directors; Nigel Clarke, Deputy Managing Director; Jihad Azour, Director of the IMF's Middle East and Central Asia Department, and Ms Eva Petrenko, Mission Chief for Pakistan.
The meetings featured detailed discussions on Pakistan's macroeconomic situation, the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), and progress under the ongoing programne with the Fund.
The Finance Minister particularly highlighted Pakistan's improved fiscal position, balance in external accounts, achievement of revenue targets, strong foreign exchange reserves, record remittances, and improved current account situation.
The discussions covered tax and energy reforms, privatization, tariff rationalization, debt management, diversification of financing sources, and Pakistan's return to international capital markets.
The two sides exchanged views on human capital development, women's economic participation, population-related challenges, technology-driven growth, and an export-led growth trajectory led by the private sector.
The Finance Minister thanked the Fund's management for consistently supporting Pakistan's reform agenda and acknowledging adherence to the agreed programme with the Fund.
The Finance Minister reiterated the government's commitment to fiscal discipline, ensuring policy credibility, structural reforms, and long-term economic transformation.

US lauds progress in Pakistan's macroeconomic stability
Earlier, the United States has appreciated Pakistan's progress in restoring macroeconomic stability and advancing key economic reforms.
The appreciation came from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a social media post on X, following his meeting with Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb in Washington.
The two sides discussed importance of sustaining the reform momentum to promote durable economic growth and support Pakistan's successful return to international capital markets.
