The federal government has increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel under the revised petroleum pricing mechanism, with the new rates taking effect from July 24.
According to a Petroleum Division notification, the ex-depot price of petrol, officially listed as motor spirit, has been increased by Rs4.40 per litre, from Rs327.12 to Rs331.52.
The price of high-speed diesel has been raised by Rs3.62 per litre, from Rs375.04 to Rs378.66.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority revised the prices under the petroleum pricing mechanism introduced by the federal government.
Since July 17, when the daily price mechanism was launched, the petrol price has risen from Rs310.71 to Rs327.12 per litre and diesel from Rs323.30 to Rs373.66 per litre.
The increase is expected to place additional pressure on consumers and transport operators. Higher petrol and diesel rates may also raise passenger fares and the cost of transporting goods across the country, potentially affecting commodity prices.
