A tell-all interview by Science and Technology Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain a day earlier dominated the federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday.
In an interview to the Voice of America (VoA) on Monday, Fawad had talked about infighting in the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and how it affected the government’s performance. He said the incumbent government had been left with just six months to deliver or go home. He said that army and other institutions of Pakistan were supporting Prime Minister Imran Khan because they had no other political option at hand at the moment.
At Tuesday’s cabinet meeting, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar raised the issue of Fawad’s interview. However, Fawad defended himself by saying that he was quoted out of context. Fawad said he talked about a situation, which had emerged in the past.
Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda said some people within the party were involved in conspiracies against the party. He said some ministers considered themselves as prime minister of Pakistan. On this occasion, Prime Minister Imran Khan told the cabinet members to be careful while issuing statements.
On the other hand, Punjab Information Minister Fayaz-ul-Hassan Chohan criticised Fawad in strong words. He said that Fawad should resign if he is not satisfied with the performance of the cabinet.
