The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday dismissed the appeal of an accused convicted in a high-profile murder case involving the killing of his mother-in-law and sister-in-law, upholding the double death sentence awarded by the trial court.
A two-member bench consisting of Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry and Justice Muhammad Tariq Nadeem heard the appeal filed by accused Ahmed Khan against his conviction. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court rejected the plea and maintained the trial court’s verdict.
According to the prosecution, the accused had killed his mother-in-law and sister-in-law in a stabbing incident on November 23, 2018. The public prosecutor stated that the accused also injured his wife and a one-year-old child, Usman, during the attack inside the house.
The prosecution argued that the Lahore Additional Sessions Judge had correctly awarded two death sentences to the accused on January 20, 2020. It was also submitted that the victim, the accused’s wife, had recorded a statement against him, strengthening the case.
The prosecutor maintained that the accused committed the murders over a domestic dispute related to a personal relationship and argued that he did not deserve any concession, urging the court to dismiss the appeal.
On the other hand, the defence counsel argued for the acquittal of the accused, claiming that he had been falsely implicated in a domestic dispute. The defence maintained that the women were killed by unknown persons and requested the court to declare the trial court’s decision null and void.
After hearing all arguments, the Lahore High Court dismissed the appeal and upheld the conviction and double death sentence awarded by the trial court.
