Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Tuesday that the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) leaders had written a letter to him in which they had requested him to act as a mediator between them and the government, which he had accepted in the interests of Pakistan and Kashmir, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a statement, he said that right now the people of Pakistan were concerned about the wellbeing of their Kashmiri brethren.
He said that the presently JAAC leaders and workers were staging a sit-in, and they were mulling future course of action. “It is obvious that I need time to play the role of a mediator since I have to approach the government and convince it to start the dialogue,” the JUI-F chief said, adding it would be better if the committee called of its sit-in and refrained from announcing its strategy for the future so that he could pave the way for the negotiations.
Fazl appealed to both the parties to show flexibility and make the atmosphere conducive for the talks.
