Pakistan’s young middle-order batter Abdul Samad has emphasized the team’s learning process and vowed improvement following their crushing 115-run defeat against New Zealand in the fourth T20I on Sunday.
After an inspiring run chase in the previous match that kept them alive in the series, Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first. However, the decision backfired as New Zealand posted a daunting total of 220/6, powered by Finn Allen’s aggressive half-century.
Chasing a stiff 221-run target, Pakistan’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure and was bundled out for just 105 runs, marking their heaviest defeat in T20I history in terms of runs.
Samad, who fought a lone battle with a resilient 44, pointed out the differences in pitch conditions that worked against Pakistan’s bowlers in the first innings but seemed to favor New Zealand’s attack later on.
“We noticed things were different here as we did not get much help while bowling first—no swing or seam—but when we were batting, the New Zealand bowlers were getting both. That was part of our learning experience,” Samad stated.
Despite the loss, the young batter remained optimistic, highlighting that Pakistan’s squad for the tour was selected with a developmental approach in mind.
“Everybody knows that these conditions are not in our favor. But this young team was picked to test our talent. It was a challenge for us, and we accepted it,” Samad added.
He assured that the team is gradually improving and will soon start delivering better results.
“By the will of Almighty Allah, we will show more improvement in the upcoming matches. We are developing into a team and will produce good results in the future,” he concluded.
