Natasha Bedingfield is embracing the lasting legacy of her music, sharing how deeply moved she is by the continued love for her early hits.
The Unwritten singer, 43, attended Cirque Du Soleil’s Luzia NYC Premiere, where she reflected on the enduring impact of her 2004 anthem and the emotional connection fans still have with her music.
“The song is bigger than me, and I love it,” Bedingfield told People Magazine, describing how its popularity "keeps coming in waves."
“I’m like a surfer. I’m just a part of it. So when I sing it, I feel like I’m part of something bigger, and it’s an amazing feeling,” she added.
Bedingfield, who has multiple festival appearances lined up this summer, revealed that fans have been sharing how much her music has helped them.
“Recently at shows, people say they feel like their inner child has been healed, and I love that,” she shared.
She described the overwhelming energy of her live performances, comparing the audience’s reaction to Beatlemania.
“Everyone sings Unwritten with so much abandon. It’s exactly what we imagined when writing it—people releasing their inhibitions and screaming the song at the top of their lungs.”
The Pocket Full of Sunshine hitmaker is gearing up for a busy season, performing at festivals including EmpowHer Music Festival, Bonnaroo, and Splendour Festival.
“I have so many festivals—it’s so exciting! My band is amazing, and after singing for so many years, my show is just great. Everyone sings along, and it’s a great time,” she said.
Beyond her own hits, Bedingfield also enjoys performing covers that evoke a powerful response.
“I love singing other people’s songs, too. Purple Rain feels like it opens up some kind of magic—like Ali Baba’s cave just opens up when you sing it.”
The British singer currently resides in New York with her husband, businessman Matt Robinson, and their 7-year-old son, Solomon Dylan.
