Says package to reduce electricity prices to be announced soon
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said that the promotion of renewable energy was the government’s priority, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Chairing a meeting on Power Division affairs, he directed the concerned officials to remove doubts in the minds of the masses regarding the government’s solar policy by telling them the facts.
The prime minister made it clear that there had been no change in the government’s policy on solar energy.
He also ordered expediting the privatization of power distribution companies (Discos).
Similarly, PM Shehbaz informed the meeting that a comprehensive package, which was in the making for a reduction in electricity prices, would be announced soon.
He said the government would provide more relief to the people in electricity prices through reforms in the power sector.
The prime minister stressed the need for further improving coordination between the Power Division, the Water Resources Division and the Petroleum Division in order to chalk out a comprehensive strategy for the energy sector.
Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Leghari, Advisor to Prime Minister Dr. Syed Tauqeer Shah and concerned senior officials were present on the occasion, while Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema and Advisor to PM Muhammad Ali attended the meeting via a video link.
