The long-standing tension between filmmaker Karan Johar and actress Yami Gautam has resurfaced online after Karan recently praised Yami’s performance in the film Haq.
The move sparked conversations on social media, recalling past incidents where the actress allegedly faced exclusion from Johar’s projects and events.
The controversy dates back to the promotions of Kaabil, when Karan Johar reportedly invited Hrithik Roshan to appear on Koffee With Karan but asked that Yami Gautam not attend, as she was considered “not big enough” at the time. Hrithik reportedly declined the invitation in solidarity with his co-star, highlighting the tension.
The snub allegedly extended beyond talk shows. During the promotions of Uri: The Surgical Strike, Yami Gautam was said to have been ignored by Johar and other judges on a reality show.

Recently, Karan Johar took to social media to praise Haq, writing, “HAQ… The Shazia Bano story and victory moved me to a puddle of tears… I was speechless at the end and then clapped loudly for the film and lamented that I missed the opportunity of watching this exceptionally empowering film in the cinema…”
Netizens quickly called out the filmmaker for being “double dholaki” applauding her now after previously ignoring her bringing the old controversy back into the spotlight.
