Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a four-year extension in the tenure of Fawad Asadullah Khan as Director General of the Intelligence Bureau, according to an official notification issued by the Establishment Division on Friday.
The notification stated that the extension will take effect from July 14, 2026, and will continue under the existing terms and conditions of service.
Fawad Asadullah Khan was appointed Director General Intelligence Bureau on April 21, 2022.
He is the first officer from the intelligence cadre to be promoted to Grade-22 and appointed as DG IB.
During his service, he was awarded the Tamgha-e-Shujaat in 1996 and the Sitara-e-Shujaat in 2017 in recognition of his services.
He was also awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2025 for his contributions during “Marka-e-Haq,” according to the statement.
