Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan, ex-PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar could not be indicted in contempt of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) case on Thursday as the election commission adjourned the case’s hearing until November 30, 2023, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A four-member bench of the ECP, headed by Member Sindh Nisar Durrani, which heard the contempt of the election commission and chief election commissioner case, said it would indict the suspects on the next hearing.
On the occasion, Khalid Naeem, a section officer at the Ministry of Interior, submitted to the bench report on the jail trial.
Imran’s lawyer Shoaib Shaheen said that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had only given an order in the case, while complete verdict in the case was being awaited. “What is required are production orders of the PTI chairman,” he added.
Member ECP said that Imran’s jail trial in the US cipher case was not the first in history. “Still we will give an order in the case,” he added.
When Fawad’s lawyer requested the bench to dispose of the case, the member replied how he could dispose the case of when its hearing was in progress.
Asad’s lawyer said that his client was in Karachi following which the ECP adjourned the case’s hearing.
